Random Musings

I have a couple of posts that I've been meaning to put here on my little site that just haven't quite made it to the front burner yet. Here is one...

This last Christmas, I received (stole) a gift that I thought might be of some use to me. You know, the whole stay-at-home-dad thing. The gift I got was the amazing "Ove Glove"

Supposedly, this thing can withstand temperatures of nearly 500 degrees. I gave it a simple SAHD test. The "Ove Glove" is easily worn on the left or right hand.
Here I am holding a pan of fresh baked "frozen" bread. Baked at 375 for 30 minutes I think. While I was able to take the bread out easily. My hand started getting warm while I was trying to get a good picture. A minute longer and I would have been in pain. PASS
Here is a very hot pot of boiling water from which I made spaghetti. No problems here. PASS
Changing a light bulb? Just holding my hand on a 40w bulb I could feel the heat really start to come through. FAIL
Yes, the "Ove Glove" is supposed to be "flame retardant". Did it pass this test?
YES!!! Just a little scorched. PASS

Over all I'd give it a "B". I wouldn't go out and pay $15 for it, but I sure would pick it out at a gift exchange where there wasn't much better to choose from.

Oh, here are some cute little pictures of Oda Mae.

Oda Mae can make ANYONE smile...

I firmly believe that someday in about 25 years or so, Oda Mae is going to give a smile to some unsuspecting boy and that boy is going to literally fall all over himself trying to get her to marry him.

Back Home Now

Yesterday, Blogger wasn't being very friendly, so I decided to put up a "Guest Blog" on Oda Momma's site. Finally this morning, I'm able to blog again on my own site. Yeah!
This morning Oda Mae woke up at 6am. I made her go back to sleep. She started waking up again at 7 so I jumped in the shower before she really woke up. When I got out, she had gone back to sleep. Then she didn't wake up until 8:45! Woo Hoo!!!!! When she did wake up, she was in a very good mood. Here we have our breakfast photo shoot!

P.S. Would the kind visitors from Germany and Hong Kong please leave a comment. How cool would that be!

P.S.S. Would the kind visitors from "High Class Blogs" please not leave comments any more. You're spreading the evil. Thank you.

Dr. Day

Well we both went to the doctor today. Oda Mae got another clean bill of health. Her ear infection is completely gone. She is still coughing a little, but that seems to be going away. Here is Oda Mae, very happy to not be sick...

She knew she had it good when Mommy and Daddy felt sorry for her.

Daddy went to the ENT specialist today. The doc looks me over and tells me that I am extremely congested. (I could have told him that!) My uvula is indeed somewhat elongated....BUT that's not what he's worried about! He said that sure, he could take radical, surgical measures and trim it up a bit...but he wanted to delve a little further before doing something like that. He says that my ADENOIDS look like they may be enlarged (he said that this was very rare in adults). He could go in with a scope and check things out, but since I was so congested, that might be a little uncomfortable. (I'm thinking that if he tries to put anything up my nose right now that he may be the one who is a little uncomfortable after I punch him in the gut.) "Rather than do that", he says, "lets run a COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY." And the whole time he is telling me all this, I'm THINKING...

So, next Friday, I get radiated.

I just wanted him to give me some drugs to make me feel better. (sigh)

Dr. Dr. Dr.

We both go to the doctor tomorrow. Wish us luck.

Oda Mae seems to be feeling just fine. She has been in a very good mood the last few days...and she has slept all night the last two nights (knock on wood). Oda Daddy is feeling worse again. Damn enlarged uvula. Oda Momma has come down with something now as well and she pretty much feels like crap. So Oda Mae gets to be the lucky one until she catches whatever we have. Until tomorrow...

I Like My Job

New Friend: So, what do you do for a living?

Me: Well, I really enjoy my job.

NF: Great!

Me: You know those little plastic magnetic letters that you put on your refrigerator for your kids to play with?

NF: Oh, yes I know those. Are you involved in manufacturing them?

Me: No. I run around the house all day long picking them up and putting them back on the refrigerator.

NF: Oh....?

Me: :)

New Nightgown

Daddy bought Oda Mae a brand new nightgown this weekend. When ever I go out of town I like to bring Oda Mae a surprise. So this was it for this weekend. I think she likes it.
Oda Daddy is very tired today. I had to get up four times last night with Oda Mae. The first time I couldn't get back to sleep and was awake for about two hours. She did give me a pretty good two hour nap this morning though. Guess I can't really complain. Just wish she would sleep all night long.

Snot(PHSNOTG), Snot(PHSNOTG), Snot(PHSNOTG), Snot(PHSNOTG)....Lov....(nevermind)

Oda Mae is pretty snotty(PHSNOTGTY) today, but she is still in a pretty good mood. The doctor said that the medicine might make her a bit hyper. Today...she was right. The child has been up since 7am and shows no signs of stopping. She is usually starting to work on her second nap by now. So we had a little photo shoot.

Yes, the little marks on her cute little purple shirt......SNOT(PHSNOTG)!

Flem(PHLEGM), Flem(PHLEGM), Flem(PHLEGM), Flem(PHLEGM)...Lovely Flem(PHLEGM), Wonderful Flem(PHLEGM)...

Edit: (Okay, so I don't know how to spell the word "PHLEGM". After Oda Momma and Oda Grandmomma had a good laugh at my expense, Oda Momma finally decided to tell me (well after the fact) that I had completely misspelled the word "PHLEGM". I'm glad you all had a good time.)

Oda Mae and I went to the doctor AGAIN this morning. I'm starting to get to know the staff, nurses, and doctors very well now. Oda Mae slept on me last night so that she wouldn't cough so much all night long. Yesterday I started to notice some coughing and fleminess (PHLEGMINESS)coming from her, so last night when it started to get worse, I knew that I was in for it. When Oda Momma and I went to bed last night, Oda Mae started coughing and crying so I told Oda Momma good night, and that I would see her in the morning. I took Oda Mae and we "slept" on the couch. She did a lot better when she wasn't lying flat. I did not. Nevertheless, we made it to this morning and I called the doctor because there is supposed to be some kind of rampant virus going around that starts with a cough. We went in and apparently she has a cold. We got a prescription to make her feel a little bit better. I hope it works. In the mean time, we have an appointment for next Friday to check out her ear infection (which is apparently gone now). I'm just hoping we don't have to go in before then.

I am glad to say that Oda Mae did not have the "Ebola" virus that Uncle Nonchalant Savant gave her for Christmas.

For all of you who are just dying to know...I went to the doctor on Monday and was diagnosed with allergies possibly aggravated by an enlarged uvula. I have to go see a uvula (ENT) specialist next Friday after Oda Mae's appointment. Hope I get to feeling better soon as well. You know what they say about guys with a large uvula...

...they tend to snore.

A Clean Bill...

Oda Mae went to the doctor today for her nine month checkup. Other than the redness in her ears due to her ear infection, all seems to be well. She has just about doubled her birth weight now and is up to 20 pounds 5 ounces. (For those of you who are newbie readers...yes, Oda Mae came in weighing 10 pounds 5 ounces).

She is feeling much better now that we've been pumping her full of antibiotics. She is just way fun to be with when she is in a good mood. She is getting to the point now where she is really doing some fun stuff. She will stand on her own for several seconds. It's just a matter of days, I think, before she takes off walking. She will walk holding on to one hand rather than two now as well. She likes to wave hi and bye, and today we learned how to give something to Daddy. She will have a toy in her hand and I'll ask her to give it to me and she does....sometimes.

I'm sorry about the lack of posting during the past several days....holidays followed by some kind of crud that I caught from someone. I'm going to the doctor on Monday morning to find out why I can't get rid of this junk. It's been almost two weeks and I'm pretty sick of it. This will be the first time I've seen a doctor (for myself) in a lot of years!

Oda Mae had "spasghetti" for the first time last night. Here are some fun pics.

BTW, I was very lucky in the fact that the medicine that Oda Mae has been taking for her ear infection has not caused any adverse poopie effects. Yeah for me!!!!!!!

Okay, one more...

Here we go again...
Uncle Jake taught me how to stack a tea set...
Oda and Oda Aunt...
This is by far the coolest gift given to anyone at any of the Christmas gift exchanges this year. It's a "Marshmallow Gun". I'm a little disappointed it wasn't given to me...
The Oda Family...
